A shorter link at Level M often scans more reliably than a long link at Level H in the same footprint.

A subtle point: error correction restores data inside the code, but it cannot recreate a missing quiet zone. If the border margin is clipped or covered, scanners may fail to locate the code at all, regardless of level.
